Can't jump in the Castle of Malace

I seem to be very stuck. I can't jump over a big gap in the Castle of Malace (yes, I have the levitation sandals equipped on Marine) - it still says "That's quite a big jump". I also reach dead ends (although I can see other pilars, just can't jump to them) when going through all those explosions after going through a door in the castle. Am I missing something??

It's not the Levitation Sandals that you have to equip, you need to equip the Air Sandals.
