I cannot get him to come with me - I have Lucy with brilliant mind - full mp have done all the blue hearts but he still only says he loves his odour- is he really necessary to the game? Can anybody help me?+:: +::surrender

Talk to him many times, he'll agree to leave with you after you kill Aliener. If you talked to him before, just after you killed Aliener, he will be with you and will leave. I think that Luci needs to have a high quantity of MP, almost full.

Still could not get him - talked to him before fight but he does not show up in my party after fight - what have I done wrong?

Dunno. Here's what I do:

First - Talk to him more than once, he will say that he will want to leave with you, Luciana agrees.

Second - Just after Aliener is defeated, Luci will say (if you talked to him before) that she will try to teleport him with her. She will be able to do it if her MP is high enough. Didn't that happened with you?

NO- i defeated both things at the end then was transported back to the inn - went back to a previous save and same thing happened. do I really need him?

Strange, I did what I mentioned above and I got him. Oglong is an optional character, it's not mandatory to recruit him in order to finish the game.

Paragraphs 25 and 26 of the Chapter 11 walkthrough give full and exact details. It might be that some tiny variation in what you're doing is what's preventing you getting Oglong.
