I have just finished the game and didn't have any trouble with the Prince of Darkness just sitting there. You may have already solved it by now but I'd suggest perhaps going back to an earlier save? I did have to click on him and was giving an opportunity to save and confirm if I REALLY wanted to do it! It's definitely one of the tougher fights to work out what drains him rather than feeds the bugger!!
If you're really stuck, PM the developer like a blast from the past
