failed to initialize direct x audio

So I got the script hang crash (I posted about that earlier); downloaded the patch; placed it in the laxius ii folder and unzipped it; also (probably stupidly) placed it in the laxius iii folder. Then I couldn't even open the game, getting the "filed to initialize..." message. I think I've managed to screw up the Laxius folder(s).

So I uninstalled and downloaded and installed again, and still I get "Failed to initialize..."

Help! (I'm running WIndows XP and have had no problems before with Laxius I, II, or III--I've gotten as far as the Phoenix God--that's where it started to hang).

Try to uninstall the game fully, then re-download and install it again but in another folder.
