LF3 - How to enter "text" in this game

I finally broke down and purchased LF3 and the Guide. However, here is my problem:

I forgot HOW TO ENTER TEXT into the game ... for instance, when Wendela has a chance to capture a special bird in the garden area (this is relatively close to the beginning of LF3 and Wendela is teamed with pets only) ... the game asks "Do You Want to Catch the Bird?" and when you click "yes" ...

THE SCREEN changes to a chalkboard-like background with the letters of the alphabet/numbers/and symbols on it. The player is expected to enter the character's name that will be capturing the bird ... which in this case is Wendela. I cannot figure out how to manipulate and take out the word "AHEM" which is all ready typed in there and then, enter the correct spelling of Wendala's name.

Can someone refresh my memory on how to accomplish this? I surely would appreciate it. Thank you so much.

"Esc" key deletes them, then you can press enter on each letter to write it. And it's not Wendala who can catch it, it's Cocka-Cocka.

Yes, ESC will remove letters one by one so you can put the word of your choice.

Thank you for responding so quickly to my question loof123 ... I really appreciate it. And, you say, it's NOT Wendela? hmmmmm .... and I don't even have Cocka yet. This must be something that will hopefully be resolved later in the game.

Due to a computer repair technician's error, I have lost all data on LF1 and LF2 (finished 1 but not 2) ... so I must start all over again, and decided to start with LF3. So far, I am enjoying the game and this was my first major problem. Thanx again ... this was quite helpful.
