Hi! Went through the game once leveling up all 8 members of the party to at least the 40s. Some of the party, Piu Piu and Merline, for example, never seemed to get much stronger or increase in fighting usefulness. I'm going to play again, and wondered if leveling all of the party is important or should I just concentrate on some main characters for the final battle against Lord Dragon.

Piu Piu won't get stronger, no matter what you do, he's just not a fighter!
Merline is a child, she's not strong. She is a very valuable team member regardless. She's extremely fast and evades most hits. And with the right weapon she is quite useful.
As for levelling up - no need to do that unless you don't get along in the game and need them to be stronger. Your levels won't carry over to the next game though, so don't waste your time.

In MM3 I almost never used Merline. She starts at Level 1, but with the Pillar of Experience man she gets stronger.

She learns extremely fast. She levels up in no time!
