Sidequests

No Indy. It's not my intention to get everything in the game changed and adding new quests now would be too much of a good thing. Even I have to say that this would be against the content of this chapter - the hurry and time running out. Also it wouldn't change the fact that a lot of the quests that are already there can be missed easily.
Actually, I basically like the idea of linked quests. Like having Nena help you with another quest before you escort her to her church. This is something I could have thought of myself (especially since I missed a similar thing in one of the LP games, lol). But important 'key quests' like the Flower of the Depth should (imo!) not only be available at one point of the game. I was lucky not to miss it, but others have and that means missing 5 quests, which I think is a bit much.
As I said earlier, I think it is a good game. But the way the sidequests are set up is something I'm not happy with.
I can only speak for myself. What would really help me is getting the chance to complete things after finishing the main quest. It's up to you whether or not you can and want to do that and to which extent.

I wanted to wait until I'd finished playing before adding my opinion. I agree that having so many linked quests, so that missing the first means you miss out on several others, is deeply frustrating. If part of the plot line is that time is growing short, so that you only get one chance to do a quest, then I think it should be un-linked. I like a challenge, but in some ways this feels like I'm being set up to fail, which does not add to the enjoyment of playing. Also the highly linear nature of the game reduces the general exploring around, which is one of the things I like.

On a different aspect - as Tomas wrote, MM4 has become much more like LF. I wonder whether switching the character of the series like this is a sensible thing to do? People have different preferences; although some like both LF and MM not everyone does; some like LF and the way it works, others find MM (at least 1-3) more appealing. You might find that those who preferred the original style will be put off and not go on to MM5.

i agree with every word that said by ANTIGGI. I was planning to write it mystel. i like indy and its games very much but the quests should be available all the time. this is all the fun. u dont have to buy the guide - not becuase of the money but because u dont want to tempt looking at him every time you stuck.
it seems that after we found the bear Indy just wanted to finish the game as quickly as he can. it was too much stories. the part of the game u almonst did not have to do anything.
this time i think even the secter room were vere dull.
i hope the last episoe will be better. less words more action and opportunity finishing the quests at any time - like it was in "3 star of denisty" i think...(after finish the game u have chance to do all the missions u missed).

I will just add, that in MM3 missing the Find The Lost Library quest meant you missed another 10 quest or something like that...

It's also true that MM1, MM2, MM3, LF1 and LF2 all allowed you to do some quests and leveling after finishing the story, so they felt longer because of this. I cannot say if it would would be good for MM4, though, maybe the story will continue in such a way in MM5 that it isn't possible to do the same in MM4.

Maybe one thing that could help would be having one or two more quests in Mystrock Sewers similar to quests from Gardens of Balnuunla in LF2 - for example you could get the painting for Guild of Art, but you could only finish the quest later in LF3. You did the quest and still felt like rushing forward this way.
On the other hand, quests that need to be completed in other game have some disadvantages, too (It might feel that you are forced to buy the following game), so it's hard to decide what is better.

But I wanted to try something new, ie have quests linked to each other. Here is why.
Maybe I should add a few easier ones to this game then.

My daddy always told me, If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The people who are LF fans are LF fans for a reason and the people who are MM fans are MM fans for a reason. Some people don't like the complexity of having to keep up with who said what and when and where and for them LF is way too complicated to be enjoyed as a casual game. You have to be a serious RPG player to get through the LF series without a lot of help.

But MM was a different type of series. Each game until this one stood on it's own and could be completed as a stand alone game without affecting the enjoyment of the play. MM4 feels like a whole different type of game. In each of the other parts, you started in the Green Grass area and were giving hints on which direction to go next and sort of had to figure out how to get there on your own. In this one, you are guided to where you need to be by certain cues. In a way, that happened in MM2 when you couldn't enter the caves in Shumen without completing the swamp first, but not to the extent that it is done in MM4. That being said, not everyone is going to like everything about every one of the games and the only thing you can do is press on and hope the next one is more to your liking.

Well said Dee. I wasn't trying to get the game changed. Just giving my opinion. I feel that Indy needs to know what people dislike as much as what they like, simply because it not only improves upon the games but keeps him in business. Example: The changes that were made such as arrows to guide or visible monsters were wonderful additions to this game and I believe I voiced my opinion on that. If not, I apologize!

I also appreciate these things VERY much, especially the visible monsters. I would not have kept on playing MM with invisible monsters. I know a lot of people prefer that (including Indy himself, right?), but I just don't like it, so for me the games have improved a lot with this feature.

I'm sorry by bugging into this discussion which I guess is only for speciall members but I also have my 2 cents to give: like for instance the Flower sidequest, why not make a principal quest like in LF the dismantling of the Slave organisation which in the walkthrough is specify to be a main quest and not a sidequest?? this way you do know that it has to be done in order to continue and you will realised that it is connected to some other quest after. Also yes I found i there is to much to read until you are able to continue playing!! + Otherwise the scenary is just breathtaking! I always wonder which part of Europe or America for that matter Indy used for the background ,!Is beautifull!. Still this little things would no stop me from buying the next one as soon as it comes out WHICH IS WHEN?????? (sorry got a little carry away) +::biggrin +::lol +::Thumbup Thanks Indy for a wonderfull game.
