If you're using the human characters goodie, then no. No animals will join.

But on the other hand, if you play with goodies 2, you will have only the animals - so take your pick.

goodies were designed to try new things, not play or complete the game regularly. in particular, you can play early on any character included in the goodie, and compose a new party entirely for a different feel.

One of the advantages of this alternative possibility is that I had to devise quite different strategies (e.g. because no Barbara) and that made it feel like it was almost a whole new game. That more than compensated for the fact that I couldn't complete a couple of the quests. But then, I'm not a total completionist.

In regards to the human goodies, if I accept Jasmine into my party, but then swap her out for Melusine, would it still cause Jasmine to permanently leave my party roster? Or will she stay despite the fact she was traded out?

she will stay. the plot consequences completely disappear when you play a goodie. the same set of characters is available from beginning to end.
