I'm at the point after where the party got back together after defeating the trickster. I tried to get Eve the cow but the way to that area in Izuka is blocked by a guy who says "Nobody is allowed to go this way. Not even you!" Then I went to Exelion to get Melvut the fox but Melvut just chatted a little and then said goodbye, now he won't talk to me. Can someone advise?

The area in Izuka you're talking about is not where the cow is. You must go east right after entering the town.
As for Melvut - maybe this is time sensitive. I always got him right after getting to Exelion. You already killed the demon of tricks, so maybe you missed the chance to recruit the fox.
