Well, LF might not be the best game to begin with anyway. I don't know how skilled you are with RPGs, but it's a quite difficult game. Very huge, a lot you can miss, a lot leveling up.
And 3 Stars is a random encouter game that has only save points (meaning you can't save everywhere you want) which makes it harder (especially for save junkies like me).
I think MM is the best to start with.
Or ... *adding something to the list* the Aveyond games which you find on Amaranth. They are great games as well and imo perfect to begin with.

Oh, I loved them! It was the first RPG I've played and they are really good games.

I didn't. I thought they were borderline bad. :/
