I think that the Bear knows her and she will provide some special training and help. It is also possible that she could have a background similar to the Bear in that she tried to affect change for the poorer people outside of Mystrock, but she could not succeed on her own. Marine has the gift of bringing people together for common purpose and she genuinely cares about people too. Those are both great traits in a leader even thought she is very young.

The Bear is a very lonely man though. How would he know her?

It is also possible that she could have a background similar to the Bear in that she tried to affect change for the poorer people outside of Mystrock, but she could not succeed on her own. That seems to be a good guess. Although, judging from the MM5 screenshots so far, there are actually many places Marine and her party haven't visited yet.

Maybe she lives in the neat swamp area that is shown in some of the screen shots or in one of the ancient temples that Norman loves. The Bear seems to be a loner now because he exiled himself after his failure. He wasn't always like that and I think he knew her from before. He may have even heard of her attempt to get things to change, but thought that she was foolish, but now that he is back in the "fight" for change he knows they will need all that they have and all that they can get to win.
