Still crashed after fighting the encounter again with the new executable. I'll try poking around the level a bit to see if maybe there's another way to get around...

Nope there isn't, but I can fix the savefile if you send it to me.

Thanks for the fix! I tried three times and got the same error. But it went past there with the fix so now I am enjoying the new game. One complaint: I am a saver so I would love to have the chance to save much more often. (I know, I have to learn how to do this with only a few save points! But gee, folks. Can't an old man get his wish once in a while?)

You can get your wish granted in some other games of mine
As for this one, it is to keep the survival aspect, and even with that, you still get auto-save every 5 fights, which is not too bad.
