OK, I've uploaded a screenshot, where Praedus doesn't have the 'Attack' option: http://postimg.org/image/z0yiexqi3/

The turn before, he was guarding.
From where it's shown, with Guard highlighted, when I press Up, Items it highlighted.
Up again, Guard. Up again, Special. Up again, Guard.
(I'm using Vista, in case that affects it at all)

Edit: If I press escape back to select "Fight" again, it makes no difference.

Edit 2: If I select the 'false' guard, it then asks me to select a target, so it obviously thinks it's attack. So there is a work-around. It's just knowing whether it's actually guard selected or not, which can be corrected as long as it's not the last character in line.

Yeah I know what it is, I think.
Try disabling the mouse, or another completely different approach, use it to select Attack maybe?
I think the mouse is placed somewhere so that it interferes with what you want to do with the keys.

That's what I wondered, but mouse is disabled. That's why I enabled mouse, but I couldn't do anything with it.
Plus, you'd think that that would affect all of them, not just the same character in a round.

(Edit 2 above might give a bit more detail)

The "false guard" is choosing "guard" between Special and Items?

Well, what I mean is, when Guard is selected, but the game thinks that Attack is selected. So when it's on guard, but pressing Up selects Items. As it would if Attack had been selected.

It's very curious. I have no idea what's going on. I have never had anything similar in my 3 playthroughs.
Anyone else had had something like that?

I've managed to re-create it 3 times in a row.

I've loaded Jallund's party and gone into the swamp, easier creatures that don't kill me immediately.
I play the first 2 rounds as Guard for every character.
The third round has Jallund with this problem.
I think it may only affect characters without Magic abilities, so only 4 options.

This is an interesting theory for sure. I'm kinda the maniac type of player and I never got it though, that's so curious.

Maybe Indy if he sent you his save file where he is and you could have a look at it?

No problem, if you let me know where.

I've just spent a lot of time running around the swamp getting into fights using your save file, and I've not been able to replicate it, no matter how long I guard - the longest was guarding for 11 turns!

This may be a hardware/setup issue.
Have you upgraded to Windows 10?
Have you installed any new/updated/upgraded systems-type software e.g. drivers?
Do you have Tale of a Common Man? If so, could you use one of your save files from there and see what happens? The basic systems scripts are pretty similar in those two games, so if it was a script issue I would expect it to show up in Common Man as well.

Could you just clarify one point for me, because it wasn't totally clear in your earlier posts.
When this glitch occurs, what exactly do you see listed in the battle commands? One of your posts sounded like you see

Skill
Guard
Items

or maybe

[blank space where you would expect to see Attack]
Skill
Guard
Items

Another sounded like you see

Guard
Skill
Guard
Items

Thanks

Thank you for trying. :)
That's odd, because it was happening every time I tried it. I guess it's possible it is my setup, but I can't think what would cause something so specific.
I'm using Vista. I haven't changed any drivers for a long time. Probably years.

I do have a tale of a common man, I don't remember having this issue, but it was a while ago.

It was as the screen cap showed:
Special
Guard
Items

What I was trying to say, and obviously failed, was that when cycling through the options with the arrow keys, the game obviously thought that there was an Attack option, but the interface selected Guard for that.
So instead of
Attack
Special
Guard
Items

The sequence was
Guard
Special
Guard
Items

But the same instance of Guard on the menu was used for Guard and Attack.

It seemed to like like something was getting out of sync.
But I can't see any reason why I would have this issue and you not.

Not me either. And so far nobody else has reported it. +::O_o +::surrender

OK, this is going sound daft, but I think it might make a difference how Guard is selected.

I think it might only happen when using the keyboard.
And more specifically, it might matter whether you press the Up key or Down key.

When testing on my save file, did you use the Down key, like most people?
Because I always select Guard by pressing the Up key, because it is always twice.

Would you please mind just giving it a go that way. And if you can't get it to happen, we'll give up.
