HMMMmmmm and why would the game be called "You and who else" then?

Well, that title would also fit for TBOL though ...

In TBOL you do have everyone at once at the end

In YOU you must pick 9 Generals out of 20 max, and each General can control up to 3 Troops (= characters).
So technically 36 characters at the same time, to defeat a wave of around 20 fights.

You make a first choice with the 9 (whenever you get 10+) and then a choice of who to send to fight a given set of enemies.

No, you can go back to your castle and pick 9 different ones, the 20 are always available (well, assuming you get them all).
You can really have all 20 Generals and their 60 Troops.

Some you have to find but a lot of you have to conquer. They are in their own castle and won't ally with you unless you show them who's DA BOSS.

Are there secret characters too? Like .... Broff maybe?

There is... no-one like Broff specifically xD

There are not really secret characters but sometimes you can get characters unexpectedly.
Other times you seem them show off in their castle until you defeat them and they join your cause.

No Broff? Too bad!
And are there just human characters? Any animals? Elves? Fairies? Dwarves? Satyrs? Centaurs? Dryads? Goblins?

There are non human ones.

Well, when you decide to post a screenshot I'm sure you feel the urge to show us one of those.
