spiked floor in the dwarf village

how do you get rid of the spikes on the floor in the one room of the dwarf village? There is a chain hanging in another room but I don't seem to be able to do anything with it! Thank you for your help!

You must talk to the shop owner at the top left of the village, but talk to him from sideways.

Thank you! I can now get to the chests but they won't open?! I went back and talked to the shopekeeper but that didn't help. What should I do now? Thank you again!

They're not supposed to open right away. Talking to the shop keeper triggers a quest and when you check the chests then you should get into a fight.

If the spikes are down then you have the quest.
My memory is that the fights only happen if you are 3 in the party.
