Request for gamemakers

I have noticed lately in games during battle scenes that most games have this swirly(moving) background image in different colors. Are there any different backgrounds to chose from or are you limited to those choices.

Now I'm sure a lot of you do not notice it or paid attention to it, I am just wondering if other backgrounds can be used. I do not really care for the swirly (moving) backgrounds.
