Pronunciation of Names

Pronunciation of Names

Postby Cassiopeia » Wed Jan 11, 2012 6:47 pm

I've been talking about Benoit with a friend today and we noticed that we both pronounce his name in a different way. She uses the French pronunciation, I don't.
So I'd like to know how people pronounce his name (or others that might not be as obvious as Jack and James lol) and how it's supposed to be pronounced (which hopefully Indy will tell me).

My sister and I pronounce Benoit's name like "Ben-noyt". Not the right way, I guess, but that is how we pronounce it.

I cannot remember any other rather uncommon names at the moment...

Oh, and we just call Marine's dad Stan. +::biggrin

That's how I pronounced it too, though I figured it's probably wrong.

As for other names - well, in LF there's Kratin. If I pronounce him the French way he rather sounds like something to eat, hehehe!
Or Brussian. Don't know why, but I always pronounce the ss as sh.

I still stubbornly pronounce Benoit as what Kylie said, Hirado as" Her raw dough", xD, Salome as "Suh low muh", I always accidentally pronounce Jeanne as "Jee anne".

Well, Jeanne is definitely a French name, so "Shun".
Hirado - not sure about the a.
And Salome is "Suh low may" - which would be the German way to pronounce it.

Then Salome sounds a little bit like "salami". +::lol

I pronounce Jeanne more like "Jean". xD

I didn't get Piu=Piu right until Merline was saying "Pew pew pew" and Piu-Piu responded with his name. I don't remember how I pronounced it before that, though.

Never thought of salami, but you're right!
And Piu Piu was always pew pew for me. Wouldn't know how to pronounce it differently.

Oh yes, Suzuki! How could I forget that! An old man with a motor cycle name, hehehe!

Ok, here's a list with the LF characters. Any of those that seem unclear?
