Can't access skill choices

I bought Ashes of Immortality today, and everything worked fine during my first session with it. I came back later, and no longer have choices of attack or skill or escape or item for Simona. Every battle automatically uses the paralysing skill until mana runs out. Only then can she use her regular skill. I have no choices of skills any more. What's the problem and what can I do about it?
