Spirits sometimes drop them when they die, and there are a lot of them scattered in chests and on the ground. Also, once you find the silver sword, he can attack with that.

Speaking of Sarah's spell, make sure you complete the guild quest in Mt Zulle and equip the wand you get from it before going in. You'll probably run out of mp very quickly if you don't.

if you did the 1st guild quest u can buy about 10 mirrors at their shop and you'll be out of trouble for a while

Random has a nice stat boosting spell

No, that's the platinum sword. The silver sword if I recall correctly is in a chest to the right of the white haired guy in the room just past where you get Sparks.
