I've just restarted the game on Hell-Mode (just to see if I can do it).
Apart from peak of heroes, the only monster ever I really had troubles with was Uzair. Lateron my chars usually were high enough that even the final battle against Ozur was rather boring.

Any tips? Stuff I should buy?
And how far can I explore before confronting him? Is it the second lamia village or Xen which kills the option of meeting Baretta?

iirc it's the second llama village, so don't leave the marshes southwards until you have collected her.
