traveling man of adretana

I'm stuck at the beginning of Chapter 4. I've killed the dragon for gareth, explored the tower of arms, etc., but I can't get to Adretana (or "King Julian") because the guide is missing, and I've searched everywhere (I think) for him. Help!

Use the gossip spell for more information on how to find the guy. Apparently he was last seen near the Square tower before he vanished. Go back to the screen with all the signs. Go up one screen and then left. Go up the first north path and kill all the anacondas. Quest complete.
