Stats Lowering?

I just started playing and decided to go with Story Difficulty so I could get a feel for all the unique bits in this game. Just managed to finish the fight with the Rogue and have noticed something that is both not understood and disturbing: I am losing stats! The numbers decrease after some battles and I don't understand if it is some mechanic of the game I haven't seen a tutorial book explaining yet or if I'm playing badly or what...

Really liking the game but this is tainting my enjoyment of it

Maybe during a fight your characters received a boost (for instances from spells). When the fight is over they loose the boost. That makes it look like the stats go down, but in fact they just return to what they've been before the boost.

I certainly intend to...have to restart after realizing I missed a whole ton of stuff, including a couple Forge items. They really hid stuff almost too well in this game :D

Am I just incredibly blind (always possible since I do wear glasses :P ) or are some of these things literally invisible unless you actually know where to look or stumble across them by accident?

They ARE invisible. In fact, you should make it a habit to check anything and everything. Often things are hidden in drawers, cupboards, bookshelves, .....
Plus, in the MM series there are lots of secret rooms to find, and in some of them there's great stuff. Often secret rooms are in fairly obvious spots, like niches or where there's a crack in a wall or something like that. But The Trickster always hides some that are really tough to find because nothing indicates that they are there. When you find a SR you should always note down its number and location. If you miss one you can then more easily narrow down in which area it's most likely to be.
In dungeons always try to jump down cliffs because sometimes you'll fall into a SR. However, in order to access some of the SRs you need a special piece of equipment, the

Air Sandals that make you jump higher

Yes, they are different "levels" of secrets, and some are really hard. But they are always optional. 8)
