Can't get out of Bogobaka and other questions

I have several questions/problems...

I have completed the quest to kill the big crocodile and now I cannot leave Kareine's village. This is my second attempt at this game and I was able to leave the first time. Is there something I have missed?

Also, there is a girl walking around near the ghost who ways a crocodile killed him. I cannot get to her to talk. I can only get as close to her as a patch of lilly pads just northeast of where she is walking.

When I came into this area from the world map, I seem to remember another ghost by a garden. I cannot find him either.

Can anyone help me?
