I don't like Discord at all. Tried it a couple of times, but found it dark and messy, and somewhat depressing that gamers now prefer a place similar to a chat room to a forum.

I agree totally. There is a social structure here at Aldorlea and interacting with other players is a huge part of what happens here. Also, this site provides a "permanent" resource for these games which I fully support.

As an old fart who survived the 1200-56k baud era, I really don't like what chat rooms have become. While I understand the adaptation to newer "technology", I choose to not join in. My technology choices are purposely limited because there was a time in my life when I lived with a beeper and public phone system and I don't like being sooooo connnected. But I can build you a computer from a box of loose parts. Technology by choice, not social pressure is what drives my life. Ever work with a PDP 10/11? Play an Infoseek game? Remember SCO Unix commands? How about IBM AS400 commands?

Ahhhh, how life changes. The WWW did not even exist when I bought my first 8088 PC with an IBM 9-pin graphics printer and dual floppy drive for $4500. Thank god for SCSI.

I have to agree the forums on Aldorlea excel over chat rooms. I've used Discord it's good in some instances where ideas need to be kept from general public for new game ideas and development so idea theft is protected.
but our forums here are the best. All info on games is located in one place.

I feel like Discord is basically IRC with added voice and video chat.
Personally I like having both options

Those are some old technologies you are mentioning. Must have been wild working with those systems.
Emotes :-) have become pictures but apart from that it doesn't feel that different from IRC to me.
Forums have a slower and more thoughtful air to me.
I like that you have made deliberate choices of how much you want to participate ^^

I also prefer our forum and I remember my first computer had a whopping 20 megabytes hard drive, no internet, no printer, the manual was the size of an index card about 1/4" thick and I don't remember how much ram.
