I only had one candle, and I used it up on the first unlit lamp. Now there are at least two areas I want to go to but keep getting killed because I don't have any more candles to light the lamps.

I'm wandering around trying to figure out what to do next. I'm assuming I fight Jack? Where? I found the beggar, but do I go to NY now or wait until I kill Jack? I can't find anymore candles to light and I still have 6 in my inventory so I'm assuming I missed several.

In London, you need to find the Toy Shop. There's a locked gate in the Toy Shop. By exploring more of London, you need to find a key to that locked gate.

I found the toy shop but no key. I feel like I've been all over. Where do I find the key?

If you've only used 6 candles, you can go much, much further east. You'll find the Toy Key when you've gone as far east as possible.
