Paralyze

Before playing PN I browsed through the boss strategies topic, and several times I read that some enemies are allegedly susceptible to paralysis. But in all my playthroughs I never found a way to paralyze them. There's no weapon and I also never found a spell that could paralyze.
Does anyone have an idea?
