When I checked, there was no gate blocking the way. The directions in that part of the walkthrough could easily be misinterpreted. In such a case, you may want to explore the immediate area on your own, or with the aid of the map; to make sure there isn't a path you might have missed.
If there is truly no way into that part of the dungeon, then you most likely missed a switch earlier in the game. Try leaving the immediate area to get back to the computer. Go immediately down from the computer and make double sure that both switches you find are 'on' (The lever facing towards the right). One of those two switches is most likely responsible for the door in your way. If neither of them works, you may need to backtrack further and make sure that every switch is 'on'.
