I just buried Sandy, got the gold, added Brussian to my party, and went downstairs. When I get to the blue indicator on the hanging manacles and click on it, the ground shakes, but I can't find the hidden stairway to get the bio-x goodies.
What am I missing?

It's been awhile, but doesn't the lever you pull reveal the staircase along the top? I think you just go up those stairs, and then the bio-x item is to the right. I admit the walkthrough isn't very clear on the matter if this is the case.

I very vaguely recall this area though, so sorry if this doesn't help any.

My bad... when I saw the stairs at the end of the passage I thought they had always been there. I was looking for a hidden staircase near the chains -- I must have reloaded my save file about 6 times to keep trying to find the hidden stairs, and examined every pixel of passageway (!)

Thanks for the help - I obviously made things more difficult than they were.
