A glitch, maybe

In the orc fortress, after you jump up on the sacks in the second room, you end up on a platform with a chest.

If you have on the Air Sandals, you see a pair of shoes to the right that means you can jump further but Marine won't jump over the chest to get to the area where you can jump.

Nah...

I checked there is indeed a spot to jump but nothing afterwards.
An idea that was dropped apparently.
