They are most definitely NOT infinite.
They ran out on me much, much before I needed them too - I wanted to get all my characters to lvl 90 at least, but this only let them get to lvl 70.
After some pestering, Indy added 100 more rounds to the current version, so that we can enjoy some more levelling.

The cave zapoos, on the other hand, might well be infinite. Hannah Sage reported she did atleast 250 rounds with them, and they were still coming ...
