Bridge after Aiport sign

I need a rope to rescue Random from the brokin bridge just beyond the airport sign. I have 50 feet of rope in my inventory but I can't use it. Where do I go to find another rope? Thank you.

Sell the rope you don't it for a quest someone you meet will buy rope for like 1600 gold, sorry I don't remember where he is located but you should be talking to everyone anyway
