I don't like being without a save function and this is putting me off buying this game.
I've got all ten of Indie's games. Hmmm! Still thinking.
Reading some of the forum there is an implication that there is a save facility for which the main characters pays for.
Is this correct?
In the trial I killed Jasmine. Normally, I would have saved just before I killed her then go back to the save and not kill her. This way I had to do the whole fighting thing again which is so tedious. And I'm in easy mode.

I'm tricking the game. In most cases you won't need Jordan's skill (Vision of a Dream) which costs 10MP. If you're playing on casual mode the autosave will save after every fight. Now every time before an important step instead of saving with Jordans spell I just went to the folder where they save files are and renamed the autosave. Autosave file is always Save1. Just change the number and keep on playing.

And yes, you should most definitely buy! You'll miss a really awesome game if you don't!
I had the same doubts at first cause I'm a save addict, but you'll get used to it.

I bought it and the guide.
So, after a fight and I die, the game is in autosave but how do I change that to e.g. file 6? I tried putting in the number but it didn't work.

You know where the game stores the save files?
If you have Windows7 they are in
*Username*/AppData/Roaming/TheBookofLegends_Saves
Go to that folder, click on Save1, press F2 and just change the *1* to *6*.

I personally save all the time too, as a player. I usually use Jordan's spell in addition to the auto-save. 10MP is not so much.
Some priests of rah can also do the trick if you know their places.

You should definitively buy this game. Best in this style I've played, and I must have been through 15-20 at least.
This is a lot of fun and excitement for the money, and a lot of replay value.
