I'm going to take a very different approach. I was trying to decide which was the 'best' weapon overall - powerful, attributes and so on. And then I thought that perhaps the 'best' weapon is the one which makes the most difference at the time and which stays being extremely useful for a good while.

So on that basis my vote goes to the Maabul Fishing Rod. It transforms Jordan as a fighter and the paralysis affliction hits so many enemies for such a long time that even when a theoretically better weapon came along, I carried on using the rod for a while.

And my vote for general equipment has to be the Slaughterer Gauntlet.

It is indeed and I thought about nominating that one, but I went with the Gauntlet on the basis that it made such a difference over such a large portion of the game that nothing else could quite match it.
