I am in that wierd named castle about to save the children. I have read that you can get a dragon and go back and complete side quests did i miss it already???

You would need to leave the castle and return to the city. Go out of the east exit and you will find the dragon there. You can then revisit everywhere to complete outstanding quests.

The dragon will allow you to revisit Claw Island, Titan Cave and Ellewyr.
