Why when i summon the water spirit does it only heal me

I think the spell it casts is random, though obviously from a restricted list. I've seen that it will cast offensive spells sometimes

because i read i should use it against the boss of that wierd named castle

I don't think it's the boss fight, but a sub-boss fight that you meet on the way. That's when I used it. But you also have characters who can cast water-based spells as well. See this topic http://www.aldorlea.org/officialsite/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=205&t=8014

The Water Spirit started casting Water spells while I was in Inog Maho Daar.
