The break is "natural", once a character has fought their duel, they won't fight again before at least 12 other fights.
That leaves them proper time to recover. It's like one mega-game in a heated arena where two sides fight for the leadership! +::wizard

Two are obvious: Marine and The Bear. But if I can only pick 4, then I'm kind of hating life because I can't decide between Hirado, Abu, Karine, Benoit and probably Bokden.

And to everyone who knows Bokden's backstory, did any of you EVER think we'd get to this point with him?

Right, so after Round 1, match 1 (let's say Marine v. Merryl, for example), Marine gets to sit out 12 more matches while the other team members take their turns. Will she and the others who aren't currently fighting be able to leave the arena in the meantime? In other words, can she be a part of a full active party when she's not actually fighting in the showdown?

If each warrior fights one match and then sits out the following twelve, how can the order of the matchups be random? Are the rules different for each side?
For example, let's say Round 1 has matches in the following order:
1 - Marine v. Merryl
2 - Benoit v. Jack
3 - Karine v. Nate
4 - Hirado v. Nalla
5 - Jezabel v. Kusinov
6 - Abu v. May
7 - Jack v. Dragon
etc. I forget who the other Mystrock lords are, but you get the idea.
So for Round 2, the only fighter who's already sat out twelve matches is Marine. She would have to be the first match in this round, too. Same goes for Merryl. Am I missing something?

Yeah, Bokden is good too, since he can hit more than once per turn. I like Abu's ability to cure everything, even K-O.
About Bokden's backstory: I'd like to know how he got a reputation for being a rogue with a shady past. Jack and James had heard about him, and the Mystrock folks knew something about him, too. Hmmm... +:::|

Even I didn't know... but then I'm surprised nobody ever mentions Bokden as a potential traitor? Considering his backstory exactly... +::whistle

Well he does look suspicious since he can be anywhere (you never know where though) and can escape so fast, like he's guilty of something...

So will MM players get to learn anything about said backstory if we haven't played whatever game he was in before?

In your example, the next match (round 2) of Marine would be Marine v. Jack (all Mystrock names go up one level).
Marine would have rested 12 matches and Jack 11 (who gets "only" 11 is determined at random).
Sorry for the small confusion as I thought it was 13 and 12.

I don't think so... there isn't really a "backstory" so to speak, rather interesting appearances, especially for fans of him
