It's going to look like that here (where I live) later tonight. As far as waterfalls freezing, salt content and also movement of water will slow down freezing, it's why the Niagara Falls (usually) still flows during winter.

That's probably also what makes the flowers grow in that cold! So we best search near the waterfalls!
