I found the tree but not the crow - is there a special object I need to equip? Thank you in advance.

I have been two days trying to find that crow sure hope you get an answer. I am at wits end !

You don't find it immediately.
First find the optional character Lone
Click on his "My Quest" in his skill list.
Then return to the first map of the graveyard and check the straw pile at the top. Be prepared for a very tough fight. My suggestion would be to wait until you get some excellent equipment from the graveyard before tackling this one.
You get Korn as a drop with that fight.
Go back to where the crow is, select Korn from your inventory, and you will trigger the fight.

Thanks! I never even thought to look at Lone's skills since I haven't been using him in my party.

Strong, strong recommendation
Keep them all levelled up, you will suffer if you don't. Also they all (except the chicken) have very useful skills.

I just found Lone, but he has now "My quest" .....

Edit ... just got it. He didn't have it inside his crypt, only after I stepped out.
