Their locations are never random though. Where they are, they'll always be.
I think on a second playthrough you can arrange your management of your inventory better and really pick carefully what item you need each time. IMO you're bound to improve your results, as long as you remain as thorough as in your first playthrough.

How better to manage my inventory? It's not that i waste any boosts. I never ever used them besides for the quests. At least, since they are not random, maybe someone remembers where they found one. Anyway, thank you for all the help. :)

This has nothing to do with inventory management ... I am in the same situation as you now - I have any other boost except the MAT boost .... curious if anybody completed this quest in their playthrough.

It doesn't count if they didn't use their MAT boost on the chair quest back when Genevieve needed that.

I didn't but I think I have worked out how it might be done - though it would have to be before entering the Elven Woods because it needs the Flying saucer.
Fly to the volcano on a tiny island. Is the merchant's tent there at that stage? If it is, spend at least 10,000 and when he offers you a free pack of boosters, choose the MMP one. That will give you MAT boost for the Rayanne quest and the MDF boosts you need for the Crystal God.
Of course, if the tent only appears after the party split, then it isn't going to be of any use for this quest.

there is no merchant before entering the elven woods for the first time - so I don't think that's the solution ... unless you can somehow come back to saint town after the party split.

Also what's with the message on the last floor of the sage tower : " mirror, mirror ... who's the fairest ? "
Not even penelope reacts to that ... I find it weird +::O_o

Rayanne Quest is "Broken"

Postby kimo » Wed Oct 07, 2020 5:40 pm

I am on my second play and have finished all quests in St. Town, searched the entire mountain, and still cannot find an MAT boost potion to complete this quest. In fact, every quest to this point has been finished.

I used the only MAT boost I had to complete the contact lenses quest and the others that followed.

A basic rule of management is that if everyone in a company has a problem with a process, it is not the people who are wrong. It's the process that is wrong.

Apparently no one can find that single missing MAT boost we all need.

It's one thing to make quests hard, but it's cruel to not allow players to find what they know they need to resolve a quest.

Unfortunately they don't make the emoticom I need right now. So this will have to do. +::sos

As much as I want to agree with you ... Indy said he have done all 54 quest in a single playthrough ... but he is the only one .... the rest of us can't find an aditional MAt boost :))))

I do believe so... +::Dunno

Have you compiled how many MAT boost potions are needed overall?
As in, a list of all sidequests requiring one? I could try and look into the database...

Here is what I have notes on:
Q3 – 1@ MAT to finish Admin Chores
Q5 – 1@ MAT to find secret room with contact lenses recipe (I only had 1 Cosmic Potion for this)
Q35 – 1@ MAT for Rayanne
Q42 – 1@ MAT for love letter

Anyone else have additional MAT needs?

The frustrating part for me is that I look everywhere I can. You should see how much quartz dust I have. I even went through the monster stats book for possible drops. Nothing there. And I use boosts ONLY for quests.

Too many people are stuck at the same place with the Rayanne quest or passed on the contact lense recipe location. +::surrender

I went back to some prior saves. One was early in the Secret Cave to Master Z's bunker. At that time, I had

Muscle potion (Max HP buff) x3
Brain potion (Max MP buff) x1
Might potion (ATK buff) x1
Iron potion (DEF buff) x1
Soul potion (MDF buff) x1
Energy potion (AGI buff) x2
Power potion (ATK and DEF buff) x1

and the next save was in the bunker prior to the Pillar Challenge where I had a second Brain potion and a Cosmic potion. So I would assume these 2 potions are found somewhere along the way there. I had not yet used any boosts to access Genevieve's secret room. When I finished with Master Z and was in control of the spaceship, I immediately landed on Hermit Island, and went into Genevieve's hut to the chair. I knew this was the last opportunity I had to be able to access the secret room and to also finish up the Buccaneer Quest 08. I used both Brain potions and this allowed me access to the secret room to find the recipe for the contact lenses. And I still had the Cosmic potion saved for Rayanne's quest, which I have since solved. So, I guess the trick is to be patient.

BTW, I did test, and the chair can be triggered by either 2 brain potions or 1 Soul potion + 1 Cosmic potion.

This right here is your secret ... I had no ideea it can be triggered by 2 brain potions only ... this automatically mean you get to keep the cosmic potion for Rayanne and now it is possible ... too bad it's too late and I would have to restart the entire game to find out the outcome to Glen's quest.

Can you send me a PM or something Lady JJ to tell me what Glen says after you use the potion ? I am curious how a quest like that can end and I cannot test it out without restarting the game right from the beginnning . All my saves are after I used the cosmic potion on the chair.

I'll put it in a spoiler, though I'm pretty sure the circumstances have already been discussed openly.
Spoiler: show
So Genevieve, who is neither fat nor stupid, guesses that Glenn is also a ghost. Lilith questions why the sage didn't figure that out, but, as Penelope has pointed out on more than one occasion, she's a sage, not an encyclopedia. Cutscene to the secret room where Rayanne has been living, the two are now going to live happily (make that ghostily) ever after. Collect your zen and off you go. I do like the zen but Kimo pointed out you can find another in the ice shrine. I'm going to keep a sharp eye out for that one.

It didn't lead to another quest or a relic (at least I didn't find one), so, as quests go, if you had to miss one, this was a better choice to miss than Genevieve's secret chair room.

And here is why so many of us are a bit "pissed off" about the MAT stuff. I had 2 brain potions in inventory when trying to acces the SR in the witch's hut. However, hours of playing the game before that point required a MAT buff when Genevieve had a "brain fart". Very illogical to require a totally different approach to solving a quest. This lack of consistency is a huge issue to me. Pavlov would absolutely livid.

My oldest save is at about 18 hours and I have already gained access to the SR with the contact lens recipe. This is entirely screwed up since I apparently MUST have a MAT boost to solve the Rayanne quest.

@LadyJJ
The Zen item is found in the Ice Shrine in the room preceeding the final battle. It is the same room you find Bokden and find out that he deactivated the blue barriers blocking access to the chests. The small floor aberation is in the Left (NW) side of that floor before you start up the 3 very wide stairs. Just look for a discoloration of the ice. I think I also had to press <enter>.

I agree. I think if the game only grants the bare minimum for the quests, then there shouldn't be the option of having choices. Finding the boosts is a drudgery in itself, never mind being allowed to use the 'wrong one.' To me, being able to solve the quest with either boosting Max MP OR boosting MAT is a bug. It should clearly be one or the other. I was just lucky that it was my second playthrough and I knew I was going to need the cosmic potion for the Rayanne quest, so decided to try the others.

Thank you very much for the list +::heart
There are alternative ways (still involving potions) to solve at least 1 of these quests :)
Maybe that's how I did it? +:::| +::O_o
