Missing Sidequests - here we go again ...

I'm probably just too stupid for side quests, but apparently I have already missed #1 and #2. And really, I don't have the slightest idea what I could have done.
Once I have Lexus and return to Faust it's morning and it's obviously too late. But I just tried and went back to Faust before getting Lexus. I thought, maybe give Rebecca an item that cures Tired, but that's not possible.
And why can't I give the Magic Shovel in the morning anymore?

Yes, FH type quests all over again. I know you don't want to buy the guide and I agree with your comments about that. I have the guide and have played twice, but I still came up short 2 quests on my second playthrough. Several of the quests require you to leave a location before a certain point to succeed. Rebecca's quest requires you to

hassle the Harpies in their store by talking back and forth between them until they give you something.

The Magic Shovel is an example of waiting too long, but I don't understand why it is that way. Ocarinas get you back to your last safe place which should be the entrance and therefore help a lot. I waited too long with the Oddegg I found in a SR and it was rotten when I tried to use it.

There's lots of back and forth in this game. Start making notes, I've got lots of them.

Sigh. I DO go back and forth all the time. Therefore, after several days since I started I only just came out of the Evil Shrine. I try to go slowly, I keep talking to people again and again.
I did talk to the harpies quite a few times simply because I was looking up what stuff they had and if it was worth buying. But apparently not enough. It's again one of those things you really need to be lucky to get.
