LOL i like the sound of that.
Anyway, truth is there is no such game...yet.
But id like to hear your thoughts on it.
Just imagine all Indinera games in one, a huge world that would look, well similar. Involving every little spell, skill, or side quest. Every playable character. And the cherry on top, it would be online.
Of course, if Indy minds it would have to be called something else.. but im sure you, the fans wouldn't mind +::biggrin

Actually I think it is a very good idea. I have read elsewhere that Amanda from Amaranth is planning something along those lines for Aveyond, I dont know how much further that has progressed (that was 6 months ago). Personally I prefer single player games but I know that there would be a huge market for MMMO as there are for many games and Indy's would be particularly well suited for this as an RPG. The logistics however may be a different story for Indy.

well i dont personally care about the game story
as its supposed to be a whole world where any story can unfold
ive played a lot of games and the one thing that's always been annoying me are the limitations
stuff like max level, max stats, game maps only limited to following the story. lack of character customization,
im sure all of the fans have felt that.
i think the biggest problem with this game would be not making it but actually closing the gap between the fans and the creators. Why i pick the old school rpg type? well ive been fascinated with it while i grew up. And modern games concentrate too much on graphics not on game features. But i dont understand what you mean by your last sentence

Yea, nice idea, but not new at all - it was around the laxius forum for some years.
Anyway, the making of such game would be very bad move. Why? I'll explain
1. This game will require a lots of scripting and programming, which is way too much for the RPG Maker. Its not impossible, but its hard, buggy and very limited. The only solution here is absolutly different engine which to run the game and this is not easy
2. Even if the game gets born, it will want a stable server, which to keep it up. Such thing costs money, there are three types of solutions here:
- be free and die quickly, because of the costs for the running server
- be free with paid elements (equipment, maps, extras), like most modern MMORPGs. This is the most suitable idea, but still can lead to quick dead, because of the small number of people, willing to pay
- be paid. This is the worst and most greedy choice, since very small amount of people would pay for such game, which will lead to pirate servers and cracked game
3. Will require people to be GMs, which to protect the game from hackers, cheaters and spammers, few would agree for this. Without them, the game will be quickly ruin for most players, because of the scum I said.

In other words - forget it, such 2D 3rd person RPG games can't be turned into MMORPG, because of lacking interest and very hard creation. Heck, its better to make a 3D MMORPG game like Cabal Online, instead of going through all the trouble of coding the rmxp to become into MMO game

I think story is extremely important in how engaging the game is and drawing you in. But you misunderstood my last sentence. Even though I think it is a great idea, I meant the logistics of implementing a multiplayer game may be rather difficult.

Indeed.
As for the story - it can be made in many ways, the best of which is via quests. While the side quests give you money, items, spells, etc., the main ones can unlock the game further for one player. Classic way really

No, Online games are games without finallity only you fight to get stronger, to conquer some places, won't have history and neither nothing, and it's boring. The games of Indinera is good the way it is. That's why I think it's a bad idea.

well, well where do i start... lets do it in order.

Thaumaturgist
yes i know its not a new idea, i myself have had it for years.

to your first point, i never said it would be made in RPG maker.
in fact i did give up on RPG maker for that exact reason, its limited and buggy.(though it can probably be done by someone with good scripting knowledge. id much rather doing it in c++ as thats what im learning.

to the second one... i actually dont have an accurate solution, im wondering if there is a way to generate revenue from within the game. otherwise id wish it be a free game, but i dont have the finance at this point.

third. come on, hackers cheaters and spammers is an ongoing war, there is no online game that has none of them, even free games.

as for your last regard, im not a quitter one way or another sooner or later that game will be born and will live.

next, bobby.
yeas i agree the story IS very important
id sooner play a game with a good story, than one with good graphics.
but the point is while the players are free to go on with their routine a number of creators will have the developed base to create their story in something like quests, thats why it would be hard suiting the game for the creators as much as for the players.

Thaumaturgist again
i have nothing to say really... i have an idea how the quests would work but there is no point going into it.

and squall.
why are you so skeptic? yes the game wont have an end, just the stories. and the history will be build up. and boring? JUST cause you cant imagine it interesting doesnt mean it wont be. as for indinera's games... i guess they are good but there is always room for improvement. honestly u sound like a 50 years old guy who is holding on to the old ways.

Donesn't matter how much you annoy me, you will not be abble to do.

I don't like online games, because are infinite and don't have stories, everyone has their opinions, only because of that I looks like to be 50 years old? +::O_o :)

actually i wasnt trying to annoy you, its just a fact, most old people dont like the fruits of the progress so they say that the old ways are better, exactly like you just did
