am in rillia with only random, sarah and guanidia in my party, Baretta has disappeared. i can't bring my character screen up to check characters, what is happening? what is the best quest to go on first here?

You will need to find the hosts who are looking after Random and Sarah, and you'll also be sent to the school at some point - from there the story continues

Before leaving Rillia to go to the Witch Woods, try to complete as many quests as possible plus all the areas Kevin the Explorer can lead you to. That way you can pick up new party members, loads of exp & tons of great items too.
