I've noticed that Spark gets 1 HP when a quest is completed. He has to be in the party of course...

Other characters will receive bonuses like that as well when they've completed enough quests. If I'm remembering correctly I've had Sarah and Luci get MP boosts from completing quests toward the end of the game.
