Did you followed this instructions to instaling?
-XP user:
C:\Documents and Settings\[your name]\Application Data\3Stars
Did you paste the goodie on the 3stars folder?

Did you ever save? Go into the game and save. The game's folder will appear. Or create a folder exactly 3Stars. I don't know the second may work though.

I guess it's best to save once just to be 100% sure

According to Google it's probably a cracked version of Windows XP. But I'm not sure if this could cause any differences in functioning of 3SoD, it doesn't seem very probable to me.
