I've been told that there's a Nirum item in the crypt (can't remember which) and that you can't get into the crypt without Barretta. I've finished the main quests, but never got Barretta; can I still complete my set, or will I just have to do that in a new game?

It will be interesting to read the reply as I have done the same thing.
I think I need the Nirum Item to defeat the King Dragon as he keeps killing everyone.
Just hope I do not have to start again.

I dont know if you have to start over but the Nirum Shield is in Uzairs tomb in Marshlands of Xen. So I think you need to go there if you want the hole set.

But that's the point - the tomb is locked. I can't get in there without Barretta, and I can't get Barretta.

No after you finish your main quest even before that if you went into the the fist swamp town it is too late to get Beretta. I missed her the fist time too, I just decided to play the game again and try to get all the things i missed.
