Gian's Relics

As far as I'm aware, you only need two things to succeed here:

A) Retrieve the quest from the Fighters Guild. (Even if it shows up in your quest log, go back and ask about the quest again anyways. The quest book is very fickle with tracking quests correctly.)
B) Have *only* Random and Wendala in the active party. (Louis, or any other permanent stragglers will throw this off, as you simply cannot remove them until they leave on their own.)

Everything else that has been said beyond these two points are just untrue. You don't need any special items or equipment, just the quest *properly* initiated and the specific party of two. If that doesn't work for you, then I can only assume you ran into a bug, or maybe Indy has changed the quest in the most recent version of LF1?

You might just try holding off till LF2. You can still initiate this quest somewhere in chapters 6 or 7 of LF2, and it should have no issues at that point.

That "..." sounds like you already have the quest then. Maybe Indy did just switch the quest up in the most recent LF1 release? If for any reason this quest doesn't work in LF2, you might consider seeing if Indy can take a look at your save file.
I've not heard of a bug in this area though, and it's really only come up recently that players have had any issues with it. I'm more inclined to think Indy just moved the quest up to LF2/LF3, rather than having it stretch across the entire trilogy before completion.

Ah, that solves the mystery then.

I'm pretty sure the armor isn't required to convince him though. It's that specific version of the game rather than the item that lets you trigger the quest. In V. 2.1, or whatever LF1 is up to these days; it seems Indy just removed your ability to trigger the quest.

Either way, you're good to go now. If the question ever comes up again I'll have a better answer to give now too. Thanks for the feedback.
