how do I Find Argyas if I haven't got gossip spell

I think that is impossible to do without the spell.

I don't think you need the Gossip skill to actually find him, or I would certainly hope not at least.

He's around the upper-left area of the 1001 Lakes, on a griffon mount. Talk to everyone at the transport area before you start looking for him though, it may trigger his appearance there.

Start at the four-way intersection with the signs. Go up a screen, and then go left a screen. He should be in that area along a narrow path.
