There's a guy named Gabriel blocking the basement stairs; how do I get through? I didn't see anything about it mentioned in the walkthrough, but the map of NE Tyrine shows there being stuff down there. Help?

It's a remnant of an older release of the game. It's no longer reachable unless you're specifically using an older release. That pretty much is the lowdown on it, and explains why the walkthrough removed any textual reference to it.
