Blue switch unswitched?

I *finally* managed to get the doors open directly to the brain at the end of the game, but my players HP/MP were low so I went back to get healed by the crystal in the village, and now I'm back and the gate has closed again and I can't figure out how to get it open! I went down directly from the brain gate to the very bottom, where the switch for the brain gate is, but the gate just before that is now shut, and the switch has popped up. I can't find the switch I need to reopen that gate!

Others have had the same issue. I don't recall ever hearing the exact solution though. Certain switches turn off, but others will stay on apparently.

All I can suggest is starting from the beginning and taking every path to find the switches that need to be pressed again. You might even want to retrace your steps from the very beginning, possibly referencing the walkthrough, just to make sure that you don't miss any.
