I had to give up on that because I didn't have enough hit & magic point restorative and Hurado wouldn't let my party leave the area to stock up on them!!!

There are good methods to kill him. Dunno where the topic is though.
The idea is to level up a bit in case you need it and then follow the efficient strategies such as calling Jeanne and paralyzing him.
Finding the big gun for Karine also helps a whole lot, especially if you boost Karine with Marine's Red Orb.
Also, which mode are you playing in?
